Here's the opening link from Tuesday 10 March 1992 which catches Andi on the hop as there's some problem with the output from the continuity mixer. Andi - always good in a Broom Cupboard crisis - sorts it and opens the afternoon - explaining that it's a perfect day for something to go wrong as "they're recording this for some reason!" And indeed we were!

I remembered that Ratz existed but couldn't remember much about him. For some reason, I looked it up on RUclips this evening and now I hate it. A very poor presenter.

It was telecined live. 16mm films and 35mm too. This Laurel and Hardy film would most likely be 16mm.
This was 1986. Copying to tape and then hard drive playout came later.
Wehay! Rockin' the mullet! Didn't realise that Andy Crane stared as early as 1986.
Children's BBC moved from the afternoons to the mornng for the summer while the afternoon had a reduced schedule and Phillip Schofield had a holiday. Shows included Newsround Special Delivery which was recorded at the Radio 1 Roadshow with John Craven and for at least a week Phillip Schofield.. From the following year, Andy was one of the hosts of the new But First This (BFT) which clearly had a bit of a budget probably as part of the BBC 1 daytime schedule budget to do a bit more between the shows and everything stayed as normal in the afternoons.
